Researchers in the Institute of Security Science and Technology are exploring how you can spot unusual activity on social media websites such as Twitter, and what patterns of activity might precede a major criminal or terrorist event, with a view to helping governments to combat organised crime and extremism. Institute scientists have used similar techniques to help banks to detect fraudulent activities on credit cards, creating sophisticated systems to spot Anomalies.
